Maya was born in Leningrad, former Soviet Union. At a very young age she was introduced to great artistic treasures of St. Petersburg by her parents. Maya spent countless hours at her favorite Hermitage museum studying the work of great masters, especially the works of post-impressionist period and Russian avant-garde. The palette of such painters as Matisse, Gauguin and Renoir greatly affected her interpretation of color. Maya derived her sense of balance and composition from the works of Alexander Rodchenko, El Lissitzki and Kazimir Malevich.

At the same time Maya developed appreciation to the works of old masters learning the value of detail and light.

She took various art classes from the age of six and after completing art program at the art school for grades four to eight she was accepted to the prestigious High School # 190 affiliated with St. Petersburg State Academy of Industrial and Applied Art named after V.I. Muhina.

Maya graduated from the Academy in 1987 with a master’s degree in graphic design and began working illustrating children books. She took part in creating murals for concert halls in Moscow, Leningrad, Erevan and Komsomolsk-na-Amure.

Maya immigrated to Canada in 1990 where she now resides with her husband and two children. Her style of work has changed over the last ten years much of which she attributes to the happy, safe and secure life she found in North America. Maya loves rich, bold and bright colors of Mediterranean and often portrays scenes from her travels in her landscapes and even as a background for her still-life.

Maya developed her unique technique of etching on oil being inspired by Faberge Eggs she had been fascinated by as a child in Russian Museum.

Her works transpire the feelings of happiness, wellbeing, joy of life .She wants to share with you the warmth of afternoon sun and the heat of the sidewalk, the smell of exotic flowers and the taste of ripe fruit .She wants you to wonder the roads of Tuscany with her or enjoy a quiet moment in an overstaffed armchair in a romantic setting somewhere in Spain.
